Helen Jeannette Shelton Brumfield

Helen Jeannette Shelton Brumfield passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 79. She was born on July 28, 1937, in Hammond, Louisiana to the late Carl and Mary Bruce Shelton. She was a resident of Amite, Louisiana.

Helen Jeannette is survived by her husband, retired 1SG Austin E. Brumfield; daughter, Janice Brumfield Slaven, son, Alvon and his wife Amy Brumfield, daughter, Vera Fay Brumfield Woodbury, son, Albert "Albo" and his wife Cissy Brumfield. She had 12 grandchildren: Amanda Woodbury Whittaker, Roy Slaven, Christopher Woodbury, John Slaven Sr, Joseph Slaven, and Erik Woodbury all of Washington Sate. Alvon Brumfield II, Avery Brumfield, Anderson Brumfield, Cindy Menard, Lacey Menard, and Kirsten Graham all of Louisiana. Also survived by 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mary Shelton; four brothers, infant Perry Shelton, Carl Ray Shelton, Monroe Shelton, Lester Gene Shelton; and sister, Vera Bardwell.

She loved music, country and gospel. Her home church was Sharon Missionary Baptist in Amite. Over the years, she took many road trips with her favorite cousins. She enjoyed rooting for her favorite football team, the New Orleans Saints. She had been living in Washington State for the past 3 years prior to returning to the Hammond area a week before her passing.

The Brumfield family extends their utmost appreciation to Betty Ann and Sid Starkey for their compassionate care in her final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 12:00 pm. Visitation will begin on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Friday, December 30,2016 from 10:00 am until the service begins at 12:00 pm.

Interment will follow in Hoffman Cemetery, Hammond, Louisiana.
