Maw-Maw as she was affectionately known by everyone, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026 surrounded by her loving family at the Richard Murphy Hospice House. She enjoyed spending precious time with her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren swinging on the porch, watching the birds, squirrels, and hummingbirds, and cooking every ones' favorite meals.
Survived by children, Richard Benton Hughes, Jr., Laurie Hughes Durbin, William Carl Hughes, Darrell Hughes (Sandy), Byron Hughes (Jessica); close family friend, Carlos and Lisa Vicari; sister, Patricia Wilson; brother, Wayne Cunningham (Raye); sisters-in-law, Rae Cunningham and Erin Cunningham; grandchildren, Ashley Wells (Vernon), Kasy Durbin (T-Ray), Jarrett Hughes (Katie), Gabrielle Hughes (Justin), Chassidy Dillon (Christopher), Kyle Hughes, Hunter Hughes (Dara), Danica Ciresi (Ryan), Haley Bankston (Logan), Lanie Hughes (Patrick), Shelby Hughes, Aiden Hughes, Bralie Bardwell, Michael Speer, and Kialeigha Cook; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by husband, Richard Benton Hughes, Sr; son, Douglas Hughes; parents, Raymond Francis and Eulice Ellis Cunningham; brothers, Raymond Cunningham, Dale Cunningham, Frankie Cunningham; sisters, Agnes Goudeau, Gladys Goudeau, Elaine Wilson, Frances Holmes, Betty Mae Mixon, Kay Wilson; great-grandchildren, Kolt Rylie Wells, Sydney Diane Ciresi, and Emmery Jean Gainey.
Pallbearers will be Jarrett Hughes, Hunter Hughes, Aiden Hughes, Vernon Wells, T-Ray Deville, Peyten Durbin, Jaxson Wells, and Brantley Hughes.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Mt. Stevens (Red Hill) Cemetery in Independence, Louisiana.
