Hazel Bardwell Pembo

Hazel Bardwell Pembo, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020, at the age of 95. She was born on August 27, 1924, in Robert, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Champion Bardwell and Effie Bergeron Bardwell Myers. Hazel grew up in Ponchatoula in the same house that her grandparents built. After graduating high school, she moved to New Orleans where she attended business school and worked at Gluck's Restaurant. She married Chris Pembo Sr., they had two children, and eventually settled back in Ponchatoula on the same property as the old home where she grew up. Hazel loved spending her days outdoors maintaining the property, going for walks, gardening, and enjoying the good things in life.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Kathryn L. Stephens; son, Chris Pembo, Jr. (Dawn); grandsons, Christopher Stephens and Brandon Pembo (Ashley); great grandchildren, Jordan Pembo, Julien Pembo and Caleb Jacobi; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Pembo, Sr.; granddaughter, Candace Jacobi; and three brothers, Ervin and Roy Bardwell and Louis Myers.

A Graveside Service will be held at Cooper Cemetery, Highway 445, Robert, Louisiana 70455 on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 10:00 am. Hazel will be laid to rest next to her husband.
