Harry Joseph “Herc” Watkins Jr. passed away on Friday, June 2nd in New Orleans, LA, at the age of 73. He was born on April 9, 1950 in Baton Rouge, LA to the late Janice Lavigne Watkins and Harry J. Watkins, Sr. He was originally from Ponchatoula, LA and resided in Loranger, LA. He was a decorated veteran of the US Army - a brave soldier and protector of his family, his country, a hero to us all, and a fighter until the end. He was a loyal husband, loving father, and a quiet, caring soul. He was a musician, jack of all trades, and as strong as Hercules-earning him the nickname “Herc”. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his pets, playing/listening to music, working on cars & equipment, and he was always helping others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margurite Watkins, his daughters, Brande Coxen (George), Nikke Cooper (Ryan), and Joshua Travis; his grandchildren, Branden Funk Watkins, Joseph Ryan and Hailee Nicole Cooper; great grandchildren Eli Funk and Mason Carter; and sisters Jannelle Rattigan (Michael), Laura Thompson (Rob), and Lisa Bailey; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents- Janice and Harry J. Watkins, Sr.; as well as his sister Belita Schilling.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held in Manchac, LA on Friday, June 9th, 2023 for family and friends.
