Harry Samuel Mcdonald

Harry S. McDonald, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, went to his Heavenly home on February 4, 2019 with his loved ones by his side. He was 78 years of age. A fixture on Woodhaven Road, Harry lived his entire life on the family's property. Harry was born April 2, 1940 and was a 1959 graduate of Independence High School. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum in the early years and later for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development where he oversaw road projects and construction. His most memorable project was building the Manchac Bridge. He retired from LaDOTD with 39 years of service. After retirement he spent his time traveling to see family and vacationing. He loved to garden and always had plenty to go around, sometimes selling his vegetables other times giving them away. Both made him happy though his smile was always a little bigger when someone slipped him a few dollars. He grew up during hard times and knew how to work hard and provide for his family. He married Ethel Sharp in 1963 and together they had two children, Dwayne and Theresa.

He was past Treasurer of the Southern Baptist Association and attended Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ethel S. McDonald; son, Dwayne McDonald and his wife Kelly; daughter, Theresa M. Hudgins and her husband Michael, grandchildren, Kaelon, Ashley (Ryan), Justin and Gavin, great grandson, Brayden St. Pierre; brother, Marlin McDonald, nieces, nephews and best friend Gill Rines.

He preceded in death by his father, Ernest W. McDonald, mother, Katie Carpenter McDonald; brothers, Ernest Merle McDonald and Arthur McDonald and a sister, Lenora McDonald.

Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Thursday February 7, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again Friday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am with a service to celebrate his life in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am. A graveside service will follow at Woodhaven Baptist Church Cemetery in Tickfaw, Louisiana
