Harry Lynn Roberts Jr.

Harry Lynn Roberts Jr., of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at his home at the age of 93. He was born on December 18, 1926, in Helena, Arkansas, the son of the late Harry Lynn Roberts Sr. and Gladys Schexnayder Roberts. Harry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, entering the service during the last years of WWII. Working in the oil refining business most of his life, Harry started from the bottom and worked his way up to rig superintendent, and lived with his family overseas for many years. After his retirement, Harry enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family, and participating in the Krewe of Omega in Hammond.  He was an excellent vegetable grower, a Master Gardener, and a member of the Daylily Association. Those that knew Harry, fondly referred to as H.L., June, knew him for having a great joy for living and was the life of the party. Harry loved growing tomatoes, and some say he set the record for largest tomato one summer in Ponchatoula.  He also enjoyed traveling and sharing fun times with his loving companion, Clarity. Harry will be remembered for his kind heart and gentle spirit.

Harry is survived by his companion of 21 years, Clarity Tuttle; children, Michael Roberts and wife Shea of Lafayette, Susan Riley of Seattle, Sally Roberts of Lafayette, Carter Purvis and wife Rachel of Ponchatoula, and Donald Baker and wife Dawn of Ponchatoula; as well as 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren on the Tuttle side, and 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren on the Roberts side.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Armentor; first wife, Beverly Roberts; and sisters, Helen Smith, Earline Fondren, and Edith Lynn Busch.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St. Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Monday, December 30, 2019 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Ponchatoula, on Monday at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Steve Smith officiating.

Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
