Gladys Marie Bourgeois Charbonnet

Gladys Marie Bourgeois Charbonnet  passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at her home in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, at the age of 98.  She was born on Monday, December 10, 1917, in Timberton, Louisiana, now known as Paulina, to the late Alcidie Rome Bourgeois and Livain Bourgeois.

Gladys had an unwavering faith in God.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula.  She attended Mass daily and often led the rosary at morning Mass.  She was a longtime member of the Rosary Altar Society.  

Gladys was a devoted mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  She loved the holidays and enjoyed preparing the meals for the large family gatherings.  She also enjoyed watching televised LSU football and baseball games.

Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Edgar A. Charbonnet, Sr.; son-in-law, Leroy Pinion; great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Bravata; and nine brothers and sisters.

Gladys is survived by one sister, Elaine B. Charbonnet of Ponchatoula. She leaves behind five children and their spouses, Edgar (Carolyn) Charbonnet, Jr. of Covington; Phyllis (John) Beyl; Carolyn Pinion; Patricia (Ronald) Schmit, all of Ponchatoula; and  Peggy (Ed) Hoover, of Hammond.  Also survived by 12 grandchildren, Stacy Hoover, Steve Hoover, Beth C. Henry, Chris Charbonnet, Kevin Beyl, Timmy Beyl, Sharon B. Bravata, Lynette P. Pierre, Brett Pinion, Lance Pinion, Dawn S. Upshaw, and Robin S. Gumpert; 30 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Marsha Barnes, Michelle Niehaus, Toni Colorado and Patsy Davis, who lovingly cared for her for the past year and special thanks to the staff of Legacy Hospice for your compassionate care.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 255 North 8th Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.  The rosary will begin at 8:45 a.m. followed by the visitation at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  

Interment will follow in Ponchatoula Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred.
