Georgia Ethel Leger Lisotta, 82, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana.
Georgia was born on April 4, 1943, in Iota, Louisiana, to Alvin Joseph Leger and Mamie Doucet Leger, and was the younger sister of Madeline Leger Morgan. A faithful and spirit-filled Catholic, she prioritized her family above all else and showed love and kindness to everyone she met. After graduating high school, she studied and worked as a hair stylist in Lafayette, Louisiana.
On June 10, 1967, Georgia married Salvador J. Lisotta, Jr. She resided in New Orleans for most of her adult life, where her world revolved around her two children, Anthony Jerard and Dawn Christy, and her extended family in both New Orleans and Iota. Her happiest days included attending daily Mass and Holy Hour, volunteering at church and school, and caring for those she loved. In later years, she worked part-time at D.H. Holmes and Entergy, spreading laughter and joy while building friendships that lasted a lifetime. In 2005, Georgia and Sal moved to Oak Knoll Estates in Hammond, surrounded by the people they loved most. There, they spent their days enjoying family, welcoming friends, and growing close to neighbors who soon became family.
Georgia is survived by her children, Anthony Lisotta (Pam) and Dawn Panepinto (Pete), 4 grandchildren Chad Panepinto (Cait), Casey Panepinto (Katie), Andrew Lisotta and Adam Lisotta, and 3 great grandchildren, Braidan Panepinto, and Cooper and Clarke Panepinto. She is also survived by her beloved nephews John Mrak and Jimmy Mrak and many great nieces and nephews.
Her legacy is one of love — especially unconditional love. If you met Georgia, you didn’t stay a stranger for long. Everyone she touched felt welcomed, accepted, and special. She loved Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, and all the angels and saints — and she spoke to them often, making sure they were busy watching over everyone. Her heart radiated like sunshine. She was great at many things, but her greatest gift — by far — was love.
Georgia was lovingly cared for at the end of her life by the Richard Murphy Hospice House, and her family will always be grateful. A public celebration of Georgia’s life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church located at 600 N Oak Street in Hammond, Louisiana. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00am and Mass will begin at 11:00am.
Georgia will soon be reunited with Sal and laid to rest beside him in her most favorite place on earth — Iota, Louisiana.
