George E. Sullivan

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George E. Sullivan, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the age of 78.

George was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 1, 1947, to George William Sullivan and Ruby Nickens Sullivan.

George spent many years managing local movie theaters, where he became a familiar face to countless families throughout the community. His outgoing personality and genuine enjoyment of meeting people made him well suited for a career built on serving others. In later years, he continued working in real estate and environmental site assessments, where he once again found himself doing what came naturally-building relationships, helping people, and staying connected to his community.

Many will remember George for his outgoing personality and his ability to connect with people. He truly never met a stranger. Whether running errands around town or attending a local event, it seemed that wherever George went, there was always someone who knew him—or someone he knew. He enjoyed visiting with others, sharing stories, and building friendships that lasted throughout the years.

His faith was an important part of who he was throughout his life. George was an active member of First Baptist Church in Hammond for many years and, more recently, worshipped at Woodland Park Baptist Church. Through a small Facebook devotional group, he faithfully shared daily messages of scripture and encouragement, quietly uplifting and inspiring those who followed along

George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anita W. Sullivan; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Roger Rivet of Mandeville, Louisiana; his grandchildren, Christopher Allatto (Ryan) of Kentwood, Louisiana, Landon Allatto (Cole) of Mandeville, Louisiana, and Joseph Garafola (Cade) of New Orleans, Louisiana; his great grandson, Connor Ryan Allatto; his sisters, Linda Ann Sullivan of Hammond Louisiana, Debra Elaine Sullivan Rodboon of Hammond, Louisiana, Judy "Susie" Sultivan Gazave and her husband, Edmond Gazave, of Slidell, Louisiana; and his brother, Bradford Wayne Sullivan of Tampa, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George William Sullivan and Ruby Nickens Sullivan; his brothers, Thomas Gerald Sullivan (Tommy), Samuel William Sullivan (Sammy), and Ronald Homer Sullivan (Ronnie); and his sisters, Mary Louise Sullivan Durbin and Annie Agnes Sullivan Chalmers.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Baton Rouge Hospice and to the many friends and family members who provided comfort, support, and care throughout George's final journey- especially his best friends, Mike and Debbie Pittman, and sister Debra Sullivan.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison BLVD, Hammond, Louisiana, 70403, with the visitation starting at 12:00 PM, and the service to follow for 2:00 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in George's name to a charity or church of your choice. Those who knew George will remember his warm smile, his gift for making friends wherever he went, and the faith that guided his life. His memory will forever be treasured by his family and all who were blessed to know him.
