George Steven Slaght

George Steven Slaght passed away on Friday, March, 20, 2026, at the age of 74. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 24, 1951, and resided in Louisiana with his family since 1981. He is survived by his wife, Carol DeRusha Slaght, and daughter, Marilyn Guitreau, son-in-law, Kevin Guitreau, and grandchildren, John and Caroline Guitreau, as well as Elizabeth Slaght Kale, his sister. George was preceded in death by his parents, George Philip Slaght and Mary Ida Slaght. 

George worked at Pullman Standard and AMTRAK in Chicago, Illinois in the 1970s and relocated to Louisiana to work at Bayou Steel in LaPlace in 1981.  After retirement from Bayou Steel, George worked in a variety of areas.  He was a sales representative at Belk in Denham Springs, director of governmental affairs for a Hammond home health company, and assistant golf professional at Oak Knoll Country Club in Hammond.

George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his significant presence will be missed.

A Celebration of Life in George's memory will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at The Chapel at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington, Louisiana 70433.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with service beginning at 10:00 a.m. and reception to follow.
