George Joseph "Joey" Gautier

George Joseph "Joey" Gautier, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, October 8, 2022, from heart failure at Landmark Nursing Center at the age of 69.  Joey, known for his kind and sweet nature, loved his family, golf, sailing, and was an avid college and pro football fan. He loved living in the river bottom woods near Tangipahoa River, hiking in Canada, and going to southern state parks.

Joey was a 1970 graduate of Hammond High School, and a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University in accounting. He was a member of Epsilon Phi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity while attending SLU. In his younger days, Joey had a career centered around the banking business.

Joey is survived by his wife, Artie Fellom Gautier; children, Thad Gautier and his wife, Jennifer, Chris Gautier and his wife, Tiffany, and Erin Gautier (John Gill McCrory); step-sons, Don Bates and his wife, Greta and Kiley Bates; step-daughter, Artie Orgeron and her husband, Albert; former daughter-in-law, Michelle Bates; brother, John William "Jack" Gautier and his wife, Suzanne; and grandchildren, John Scott Payne, Lillian Gautier, Cavins Gautier, Teigan Gautier, Jack Bates, Madison Bates, Merideth Bates, Amelia Bates, Olivia Vargas and her husband, Jose, Abigail Bates, Elizabeth Orgeron, and Eva Orgeron. Also survived by a close cousin William Farris and his wife Judy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Lofton Gautier and Margaret Cavins Gautier; maternal grandparents, William and Annie McCutchen Cavins; and paternal grandmother, Ivy Gautier Dillow.

A visitation will be held at St. Helena Catholic Church Hall, 122 S 1st Street, Amite, Louisiana 70422, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 beginning at 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM. A funeral mass will follow the visitation at the church at 10:30 AM.

A private interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery.
