George Blanchard Hayes Jr.

George Blanchard Hayes Jr.

George Blanchard Hayes Jr. passed peacefully to heaven on Friday, June 25, 2021.   He was the absolute best….the perfect Husband, Father, Dad and Pappy for our family!   Everyone was blessed by his heart of gold! He taught and guided us with his strength, courage, compassion, enduring and unconditional love throughout his life. We will all celebrate YOU every day ALL the days of our lives. Your legacy will live on in our hearts and through all those you touched.

George was born in Crowley on January 11, 1934 and grew up in Lake Charles, where he was the first all-state athlete. He earned the Tom McAn Trophy for most valuable player in 1952 High School Football.  He was a long-time resident of Hammond and a faithful member of Westchurch Church of Christ. He had a lengthy and productive career in road construction. His work ethic was unsurpassed. He owned an asphalt business and even in retirement continued to work with Gary Core and Brudd Construction. He was profoundly loved and a true friend to so many throughout the state.

George lived Ephesians 4:2…be completely humble, gentle and kind. He brought so much compassion, patience, understanding and stability to everyone he encountered. He taught us more about love than words can express.  He was all about love, generosity and family.

George is survived by his wife, Patsy Arnwine Hayes; his sons Alan (wife Cindy), Keith (wife Susan); daughters, Donita Hayes Bolden (husband JB), Georgette Hayes Marino (husband Robert); grandsons, Brett Bolden (wife Heather), Dr. Seth Hayes (wife Sunni), Christian Hayes Marino; granddaughters, Cassandra Marino, Amy Hayes; great-grandsons, Lucas Hayes, Cheju Bolden; great-granddaughters, Sophie Hayes and Hayes Bolden.

George was proceeded in death by his father, George B. Hayes Sr.; mother, Lucille Gaspard Hayes; brother, Douglas B. Hayes.

Thank you all for the love and support you have shown to us and our families. In the end, the only thing that matters is love.  George exemplified love for family, friends and strangers.

In addition, the family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Shaun Xaio and his staff at St. Tammany Cancer Center, Heart of Hospice and Omni Home Care for the extraordinary and compassionate care that was extended to George and to our family.

George will be laid to rest in a family plot in Lake Charles at a private family graveside memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Heart of Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

THE UNKNOWN

I do not know what still awaits,

Or what the morrow brings;

But with the glad salute of faith,

I hail its open wings!

For this I know---that in my Lord,

Shall all my needs be met;

And I can trust the heart of Him

Who has not failed me yet.
