Gene Anthony Tarzetti, 88, of Tickfaw, LA, passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2020. Gene was born on January 19, 1932 in Gulfport, MS, the son of August Tarzetti and Blanch Dedeaux Tarzetti. He was raised in Delisle, MS. in the Catholic faith.

Gene served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the Pensacola Goshawks Military Football team. He was invited to join the Cleveland Browns but chose to attend Tulane University on full athletic scholarship. He was awarded Student Athlete of the Year in 1958 after achieving the highest GPA of any student athlete. Gene was a legendary athlete as he was the last Tulane athlete to letter in 3 sports. After graduating from Tulane, Gene coached at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, LA. for 12 years and was on the coaching staff when Jesuit won the State Championship in 1960. He was honored at the 50th Anniversary Celebration. Gene earned a master’s degree in Supervision and Administration from Southeastern Louisiana and worked in Louisiana School Systems for 20 more years before retiring in 2000.

Gene will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor. He touched so many lives of students and players throughout his years as teacher, coach, and administrator.

Gene was an avid golfer and preferred to walk the courses. He loved fishing, boating, and especially loved traveling with his wife Linda. Alaska was one of his favorite destinations. He loved spending time with good friends and family.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by infant son, Christian Tarzetti, granddaughter, Jolie Bartolome, brother, Ken Tarzetti and sisters, Carmen Kalbacher (John) and Joan Donnels (Johnny).

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Linda Lambert Tarzetti, son, Gene Tarzetti, Jr. (Khalann) of New Orleans, LA and daughter, Jille  Bartolome (Rudy) of Orlando, FL., Stepchildren, Susan Hamaker (Jack) of Pascagoula, MS, Donna Tycer (Larry) of Tickfaw, LA and Billy Plummer (Joie) of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Ethan Bartolome, Cole Tarzetti, Christian Tarzetti, Ty Tarzetti, Alex Plummer, Brandt Tycer, Amy (Guy) Smith, Keaton Tycer, great grandchildren, Ty Smith and Gage Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers and would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of Gene’s caregivers with Heart of Hospice.

Because of Covid there will be no visitation and a private family graveside service will be held in Delisle, MS. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Family and friends are encouraged to send condolences and share memories online.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in Gene’s name.
