Donna Gayle Raulston Schisler peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 85. She was born on May 24, 1940, in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Mildred and Daniel Raulston. She was a longtime resident of Hammond, Louisiana.
Gayle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was defined by her deep love for her family. She supported them wholeheartedly in all they pursued, always present with encouragement and pride, especially when cheering from the sidelines as her husband coached basketball and her children participated in various activities. Known for her no-nonsense nature, honesty, and dependability, Gayle was someone her loved ones could always rely on.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, from preparing cherished meals like her famous roast beef and chocolate pies to spending quiet moments reading or relaxing on her porch. She especially loved watching birds and squirrels, with hummingbirds holding a special place in her heart. Gayle also treasured her weekly games of Bridge and dominoes with dear friends. Her love, strength, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gayle is survived by her son, Dr. Dan Schisler (wife, Debra); her daughter, Donna Schisler Just; her grandchildren, Jessica Schisler Lawrence, Samantha Schisler, and Luke Just; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Debbie Raulston Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Bryan Lawrence Schisler; her parents, Mildred Gross Raulston and Daniel McKeever Raulston; and her sister, Susan Raulston Allen.
The family extends special thanks to her devoted companion and caregiver of the past two years, Rhonda Hines. Rhonda and her family welcomed Gayle as one of their own, providing both compassionate care and joyful companionship. The family also expresses gratitude to Dr. Picou, Anna Price, NP, and the staff of Modern Home Health and PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Hammond for their excellent care.
