Gary Paul Cancienne passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 73.  He was born on Wednesday, August 2, 1950 in Houma, Louisiana to the late Cloie Lanelle Strickland Cancienne and Latin Francis Cancienne, Jr.  He was a resident of Hammond, Louisiana.

Gary loved fishing and would go every opportunity he got.  He also loved science fiction, such as Star Trek and Star Wars.  Gary was also a big fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU.

Gary is survived by his father, Latin Francis Cancienne, Jr.; daughters, Christina Cancienne Lloyd (Richard) and Amber Cancienne Baggett (Shane); step-son, Christopher James Casey; siblings, Michael A. Cancienne, Perry J. Cancienne, and Janice V. Cancienne; grandchildren, Victoria Keller, Shawn Keller, Chloe Baggett, and Amelia Baggett; and great-grandchildren, Reece Keller and Grace Koch.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cloie Lanelle Strickland Cancienne; the mother of his children, Virginia C. Cancienne; maternal grandparents, Joel J. Strickland & Rose Varnado Strickland; paternal grandparents, Latin Cancienne, Sr. & Louise Anna Elfer Duet.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at The Harbor Church, 2100 Anita Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70403, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, beginning at 2:30 PM until the memorial service begins at 3:00 PM. After the service, the family would like to invite everyone to join them at the church for food and fellowship. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to North Oaks Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
