Gail Elizabeth Ouber Burgess, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away at 87 years young on March 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 5, 1938, to Adam Joseph Ouber and Lucille Dorothy Helmer Ouber. Gail was known for her zest for living with a positive can-do attitude. Her unquenchable thirst for knowledge since she learned to read made her the family source for up-to-date news on politics, world and local events and historical facts. She was known for reading two newspapers on most days and usually falling to sleep with pages dropped to her face. She often told her grandchildren to listen and to trust what she said because she was a living history book of what they were learning. Gail was a devoted mother and grandmother starting at the early age of 16. Although young, she accepted motherhood as her true purpose in life. She had many talents including being an expert seamstress and an accomplished award-winning quilter. For more than 30 years she was a taxi driver for Deluxe Cab and a private chauffeur. She loved sharing her knowledge and appreciation for her beloved home city of New Orleans with many of her customers who became longtime friends.
Gail is survived by her five children, Rebecca Joan Gamble Lambert, Jana Lynn Gamble Landry, Gwendolyn Jean Gamble Barbaro, Wendolyn Jane Gamble Beaumont (spouse, Michael), and Timothy Adam Gamble; her 12 grandchildren, Amy, Renee, Kathryn, Ashley, Bridget (Jason), Rebecca, Rachel (Matt), Melanie (Dustin), Sarah, Natalie (Jared) and Nathan (Callegan); her 11 great-grandchildren, Alayna, Cloe’, Mikel, Brody, Devin, Dusti, Jayce, Hunter, Lyla, Arriana, Jace, Tripp and Shay; and her only sister, Jan Ellen Ouber Perera.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Burgess, her parents, Adam and Lucille Ouber, her brother, Dale Adam Ouber, her grandson Timothy Adam Gamble, Jr; and her sons-in-law Stephen Landry and Gene Barbaro.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026 at First United Methodist Church, 319 Mattie Street, Denham Springs, LA 70726, visitation from 10AM to 1PM followed by the service and interment at Maurepas Baptist Cemetery, 23871 Highway 22 Maurepas, LA 70449.
