Fredrick Loren Eckert Jr. âButchâ, 68 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY, passed away on November 10, 2021, in Louisiana, at North Oaks Medical Center in his sleep, with his daughter, Kathy by his side. Â Fred was born on March 4, 1952, in Alabama, the son of the late Fredrick Loren Eckert Sr. and Beverly June (Ray) Eckert. He was a lifelong resident of New Berlin. Â During his childhood, he attended New Berlin Central Schools. Fred loved the great outdoors and always stayed busy, farming with his family. He worked for many years at Webb in Sons Lumberyard in Sherburne, as well as working for area farmers and sanitation businesses. Fred was a very hardworking man, recently you would see him doing lawn maintenance for his landlord, neighbors and friends. He had a great sense of humor and was always picking and joking. You could always count on seeing him with a smile on his face and probably enjoying a cup of coffee at Stewarts or with family and friends. Â He loved spending time video chatting and sending emojis with the grandchildren and calling his daughters all the time. He loved to tell stories and recently traveling to Louisiana to see his daughter & son-in-law, grandchildren, grandbabies, nephew and extended family.
Fred was in the New Berlin Fire Department for 6 years and Pittsfield Fire Department for 15 years until he retired. Â He loved going back and visiting his brother firefighters. Â He thought it was great that Ponchatoula had so many fire stations.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Kathy Fletcher and husband Steve of Ponchatoula, LA., Brandy Lee and Heather Hand of Norwich, NY.; one brother, Wendell of Norwich; one brother-in-law, Bill Schemerhorn; one sister-in-law, Penny Eckert of New Berlin; granddaughters; Kortiny Howell, Whitney Fletcher, Amber Fletcher and Hannah Eckert; grandson; Kallan Colburn; great-grandchildren; Rush, Araya Lowrance and Skylar, Fletcher Howell; as well as his special nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Fred is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Beadle and Charlotte Armour Schemerhorn; one brother, David Eckert; and one sister-in-law, Diane Eckert.
The family will have a celebration of life for Fred at a later Date in New York.
