Frederick "Freddie" Manchack III, of Independence, Louisiana, passed away at his daughter’s home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on October 7, 1947, in Hammond, Louisiana. When he was younger, he joined the Merchant Marines as a Seaman Steward, where he was able to travel the world doing what he loved. Freddie retired from the Maritime Steward Department, where he cooked from scratch for entire crews day in and day out. When he was home, he was always cooking for family events, bringing joy and full bellies to all who crossed his path. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, working in the yard, sitting on the front porch admiring nature, and taking care of his dog, Scooby. Most of his time outdoors was barefoot. Above all else, Freddie loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, making lasting memories the family will cherish forever.
Freddie is survived by his children: Stephanie Fontana (Frank) and Fred Manchack (Dawn); grandchildren, Presley Manchack, Alaina Fontana, Abelena Fontana and Ava Fontana; sisters, Earline Laverne Manchack Anthony and Donna Kay Manchack Lee; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Pamela Marie Manchack; parents, Fred Manchack, Jr., and Vera Manchack Goudeau; brother, Clifford "Daryl" Manchack.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, July 11, 2026, for a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am. in the chapel of Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, 2000 North Morrison Blvd. Hammond LA. 70401.
