Frederick Francis (Fred) Trapp Jr.

Frederick Francis (Fred) Trapp passed away on 15 Nov 2019 in Baton Rouge, LA at the age of 95. He was born on 15 Sep 1924 in Braintree, Massachusetts.
Born a New Englander, he came South for college and made Hammond, LA his home thereafter.  A United States Navy veteran of World War II, Fred attended Southeastern Louisiana University (formerly SLC) on the GI bill, graduated in 1950 with a degree in business and later completed a Master’s degree.  During his college years, he was elected president of the student body as well as other positions.
He worked at Shell Chemical in Norco, LA, and then at Southeastern until his retirement in 1984. He remained involved with Southeastern, volunteering and serving as president of the alumni association. He has endowed scholarships to Southeastern and in the fall of 2019, he was honored by the Alumni Association with its Friendship Oak award.  
Fred remained active in the Naval Reserves, retiring from the US Navy in 1984.  He also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and The Knights of Columbus.
Fred is survived by his children, Linda Chustz of Hammond, Fred Trapp III (Anne) of Baton Rouge, Janis Taormina (Anthony, IV) of LaPlace, Ann Wolf (Rudolph, Jr.), of Baton Rouge and Arlene Gandy (Jim B., Jr.) of Monroe; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and brother, Richard Trapp (Wilma Bryant) of Nashville, Tenn.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Isabelle Maniscalco, parents Fred and Ethel (Handy) Trapp, 2 sisters Louise Vose (Irving) and Virginia Wilkins (Henry), and brother, Paul Trapp (Dorothy Shannon).
In lieu of flowers, donations to the SLU Foundation fund or St. Joseph Hospice would be appreciated.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Village at Hammond, Belle Maison Nursing Home in Hammond, and Ollie Steele Burden Manor in Baton Rouge for their loving care for “Mr. Fred”.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday 19 Nov 2019 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, LA. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday 20 Nov 2019 between 9:00 am and 10:30 am at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home with a Religious Service immediately following. Interment will follow at Rose Memorial Mausoleum.
