Frederick William Derks III

Dr. Frederick William Derks, III passed away on May 14, 2023 in Hammond, LA.  He was born and spent his childhood in Deridder LA.  He is a graduate of LSU and LSU medical school, New Orleans.

He remained in New Orleans to work at Charity hospital and teach at LSU Medical School where he helped educate many of today’s physicians. Fred had a fondness for bluegrass music, dogs, Civil War history, and the mountains of North Carolina. He was extremely intelligent, had a quiet and gentle demeanor, and was quick to chuckle. Even in his last days, he took a keen interest in the varied activities and general well-being of his six grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sandra “Boope” Veron Derks and his parents Frederick Derks, Jr. and Ethel Estelle Bowman Derks.

Frederick is survived by his children Amy Estelle Derks Paddock(Adam), Jason Anthony Derks, and Scott Veron Derks(Stephanie Miller) as well as his grandchildren Ella, Quinn and Owen Paddock, and Jacob, William and Dominic Derks.

The family would like to thank his caregivers at Summerfield for treating him with love and dignity.

A private service will be held at a later date.
