Fred Alton Sims

Fred Alton Sims, of Independence, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at Richard Murphy Hospice House at the age of 77. He was born on November 8, 1942, in Dahlgren, Virginia, the son of the late George Sims and Helen Alton Sims. Fred was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a boilermaker for over 30 years, and a member of Local 37.

Fred is survived by his wife, Barbara Williams Sims; daughter, Kimberly Sims; sons, Freddie Sims (Casey), and Anthony Scardina; grandchildren, Jessica Adams (Spencer Davis), Kalyn Bazell (Sebastian Pisciotta), Madison Scardina, Lainey Scardina, and Trever Mandella; great-grandchildren, Kloee, Cooper, Conner, and Sophia; sister, Joy Behringer; niece, Melanie Bowen; and his faithful companion, Honey.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his son, James Sims.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Richard Murphy Hospice, North Oaks Medical Center, and Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital for their compassionate care.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held immediately following the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond, on Saturday at 12:30 pm, with Brother Rodney Taylor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sims Family to help offset the cost of outstanding medical bills.
