Frank Louis Krenkel, Jr., age 82, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Ochsner Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and daughters after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Frank was born November 9, 1942, in New Orleans, the son of Frank Louis Krenkel and Alberta Irma Long Krenkel who have preceded him in death. He was a proud graduate of Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, Class of 1960.
Wanting to serve his country, Frank joined the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1962 and served until honorably discharged in 1970. After initially meeting in the fifth grade at St. Cecilia Elementary School in New Orleans, Frank married Pauline Ann Palermo on June 29, 1963, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, New Orleans, Louisiana, with Monsignor Janson, officiating. Frank and Pauline recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
The young couple moved to Chalmette, Louisiana where they resided until Hurricane Katrina destroyed their residence in 2005. Frank was a faithful member of St. Mark Catholic Church, Chalmette, Louisiana, the Marksman Men’s Group, and St. Mark Elementary School Board. He was employed by Jackson Barracks, Stewart Enterprises, Favret Construction Company, and AP Construction, Stamford, CT where he retired as a Senior Vice President in 2000.
Frank especially loved camping, golf, traveling, casinos, and Excel spreadsheets. He was an active member of the Special Military Active Recreational Travelers, Magnolia Ramblers RV Club, and AARP Chapter 5408, Covington, Louisiana.
As a member of the Catholic faith, Frank attended Mass at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, Louisiana.
Remaining to cherish Frank’s memory are his spouse, Pauline Palermo Krenkel; his daughters, Catherine Krenkel Miceli (Christopher) and Debra Krenkel-Smith (Leonard); grandchildren, Casey Miceli DeAveiro (Jeff), Chad Bloomer (Patricia), Chandler Miceli (Kaylah), Anthony Beltran, and Francisco Beltran; great-grandchildren, Lillie DeAveiro, Cristopher Miceli, Marshal Bloomer, Kinleigh Miceli, Isabella Jenkins, and Morgan Bloomer. Frank was blessed with many special and cherished friends including his adopted grandchildren whom he treated as family.
Family and friends will be received at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 600 North Oak Street, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, on Tuesday at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery No. 1, 5000 Canal St, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119.
Frank was a devoted fan of the LSU Tigers, so purple and gold attire is encouraged to be worn in his honor.
