Emma R. "Emmer" Stewart, of Independence, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 87, surrounded by family. She was born on Tuesday, March 1, 1938, in Independence, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Grady Phillip Richardson and Thelma Morgan Richardson.
Emma had a beautiful soul, and her radiant spirit could light up any room she entered. She had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel cherished and valued. Her love for her family was boundless, and she devoted herself to nurturing those close to her, often putting their needs before her own. Emma was a true road runner at heart, there wasn't a road trip that she would shy away from, no matter where the destination. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you and their heartfelt gratitude to Emma’s beloved niece and caregiver, Phyllis “Phil” Wilson, and her granddaughter, Haleigh. Their unwavering love, dedication, and care brought Emma comfort and happiness.
Emma is survived by her daughter, Karen Perry; son, Darren Stewart (Lori); great-granddaughter, Alyssa Lavergne (Dennis); grandchildren, Heather Perry (Amanda), Haleigh Perry (Leon), Hunter (Kayla) Perry, Justin Stewart, Kortnie Nash (Justin), and Brittany Stewart; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Eunice Young (Wilbert); brother, Melford Richardson; two sisters-in-law, Elvie Faldetta (Sal) and Geraldine Tate, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Bobby "Bob" Stewart, sister, June Davis, and son-in-law, Ricky Perry.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.
Funeral Service will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Tuesday at 11:00 am, with her great nephew, Tyler Williams, officiating.
Interment will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Albany, Louisiana.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home and Crematory of Hammond and Ponchatoula.
