Elmer G. Stewart

A Christian ceremony will be offered for Elmer Gene Stewart on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with DeWayne Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at the Sallie Starkey Kinchen Cemetery in Baptist under the direction of Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with services following.

Mr. Stewart, age 82, of Hammond, LA, passed away on August 12, 2025, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He retired from the Carpenters Local 1098. Mr. Stewart was a freemason and a member of the Albany Masonic Lodge, #466. He was also a member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Holden for 15 years and served as a deacon. Mr. Stewart found true joy and purpose in caring for his cattle. He was a loving father and grandfather, who will be truly missed for his lightheartedness and knack for storytelling.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sallie Kinchen Stewart; his parents, Alfred and Wilma Stewart; his father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Sally Kinchen; and his brother, Pete Stewart.

He is survived by his two children, Kay (Kevin) Coslan and Houston (Missy) Stewart of Baptist; 8 grandchildren, Rene (Todd) Troha, Mandi (Allan) Paille, Dalton (Laylynn) Coslan, Tyler (Heather) Stewart, Brooke Stewart, Johnathan (Nikki) Crowder, Josh (Kaci) Crowder, and Alyssa (Tyler) Spellman; 9 great-grandchildren, Addilyn and Braylee Troha, Kash and Kynzi Paille, Madelynn and Presley “Blue” Stewart, Nevaeh and Kai Coslan, and Brady Stewart; as well as his brothers, Jerry Stewart and Chester Stewart.
