Elliott Martin “Bob,†“Bullet†Smith  July 1, 1928 - February 3, 2023

On Friday, February 3, 2023, Elliott Martin “Bob,†“Bullet†Smith joined the love of his life, Joan, in heaven. He was 94.

Bob leaves behind his five children, Michael, Laurel, Mitchell, Mark, and Glen, his daughters-in-law,  Gina and Laura, and his son-in-law, Tommy.  Also left to cherish his memory are his ten grandchildren, Sabrina, Mitch, Ashley, Meagan, Dale, Alexa, Taylor, Eli, Matthew, and Sophia, and his eleven great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Alex, Donovan, Emmy, Brennan, Dylan, Jayce, Ella, Vivian, Alayna, and Avery…all of whom lovingly refer to him as “Popsy.â€

In addition to his wife, Bob is also preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hilda Smith, his brother, Donald Smith, and his devoted daughter-in-law, Karen Smith.

Bob was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served in the Louisiana National Guard and graduated from Delgado Community College. He worked as a tool and die worker for the Chrysler Corporation before going on to work for Murphy Oil for 37 years.  He was a resident of Chalmette before moving to Hammond after Hurricane Katrina.

Bob and Joan never missed a chance to go out on a date. They spent time dancing the night away at places like Hawg’s and Augie’s Glass Garden.  Much of his retirement was spent y venturing on cruises and weeks-long road trips across the country. He loved sharing the tales of these adventures and stories from the past.

Bob also loved singing, and he spent his later years teaching his great-grandchildren how to “shimmy like his sister, Kateâ€.  We know he’s now teaching Joan all of the new songs and dances he’s learned over the last ten years.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd in Hammond, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Richard Murphy Hospice in Hammond.
