Edward MacArthur "Mac" Long
Mac Long, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 8th, 2024, in Covington, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was very talented with his hands, whether is was carpentry, masonry, electrical work or operating his sawmill to make beautiful creations. When his kids were younger, he built them a wonderful swing set, cabin, and treehouse that provided many hours of play and happy memories. Mac was known for his green thumb and enjoyed working in the yard and greenhouse tending to his flowers, plants, gardens. He often grew favorite plants for his adult children and taught them how to care for them. His fatherly advice even extended to life situations, religion teachings, to just about anything. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and enjoyed sharing Gods word with anyone who would listen, he even would debate it with his pastor to collaborate their findings. Along with being hardworking, he was also stubborn, but when the grandchildren came along, he was a big push over and catered to all their needs and wants. Mac was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 44 years, Darlene Long; children, Glenda Long, Glenn Long (Tammy), Brenda Long, Megan Long, Justin Long (Krystal), and Tawnya Smith (Randy); grandchildren, Mark White (Carrie), Dana Unbehagen (Joey), Caitlynn Long, Christopher Long, David Long (Dez), Leah Long, Michael Duffy (Cassie), Amber Hardy and (fiance Steve), Matthew Thompson, Kyle Bernard, Sawyer Smith, and Parker Smith; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; as well as his sister, Margaret McCoy; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; as well as his furbabies, Red, Lil' Bit and Smokie.
Preceding him is death were his parents, George and Mae Long; his siblings, George Long, Paul Long, Merle Perez and Glenn Long; along with his fur baby, Rexie; and fur-grandbaby, Moose.
Due to the storm the church is still without power, an outdoor Celebration of Life Service will be held for the family at the Pentecostals of Loranger Church on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his St. Tammany hospice nurses, Chris RN and Jeanne NP, as well as the nursing staff on the Medicine Unit 2 North at St. Tammany Parish Hospital for their exceptional care during his final journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that we carry on his tradition of giving plants instead of flowers, which can be sent to the church for services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home.
