Edward Louis Huber, Jr.

Edward Louis Huber, Jr.

Edward Louis Huber, Jr.  90, of Ponchatoula, LA  passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family  on Monday,  February 28, 2022.  He was born August 28, 1931 in New Orleans, LA to Eddie and Gladys Huber.

Ed “Papa” was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict.  He was the editor and publisher of The Sun newspaper in  Hammond in the 1970s.  He was proud of the accomplishment of being a part of the inaugural Strawberry Festival Committee and of bringing in the first carnival rides to the festival.  A lifetime sales person, he sold everything from cookies to insurance to the kitchen sink (literally).   He enjoyed traveling and gardening, but his passion was his family.   It was never unusual to see him dance around the kitchen with his wife.  His favorite thing in life was doing anything that brought a laugh and made a memory with his wife, kids and grandkids.

Ed is survived by Norma, his loving wife of 41 years.  He is also survived by his sons Carl  Huber, Edward Huber III,  daughters Kathleen (Alvin) Hebert, Sandra (Kelly) Onellion, step sons Tommy Mixon,  Leslie (Jaime) Mixon,  step daughters Carlene (Charles) Melton and Bonnye (Mike) Wills.

Grandfather of  Wendy Murillo, Jimmy Allred, Heather Robinson, Roddy Maybee, Brandy Thomas, Robin Smith , Lisa Chaney,  Adam Martin, Alexandra  Abadie, Claire Castillo, Ashley Malone, and Laurel Mixon (who took every opportunity to playfully mess up papa’s hair.)   His empire included 25 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gladys Thiel Huber and Edward L. Huber, Sr.  Also by his brother Robert V. Huber and grandsons Michael Onellion and Ronald Chaney.

A memorial and visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 11am - 1pm at McKneely & Sons in Ponchatoula, 100 W Magnolia Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454.  Service will begin at 1pm.
