Dr. Randy Mayer died valiantly in his home on October 19, 2022, after almost nine years of a battle with cancer.
Dr. Mayer was born on August 1, 1947, in New Orleans, LA to COL Randell Sebastian Mayer Jr. and Rita Mae Murphy Mayer.
After receiving his Eagle Scout badge while attending Brother Martin High School, his interest in the field of Dentistry and the military grew. After college, he was a graduate of the charter class of LSU School of Dentistry.
Dr. Mayer went onto receive his officer commission from the United States Army and began his military career as a Captain immediately upon graduating from dental school.
After four years of service on Army Active Duty abroad he was promoted to Major and then returned to Louisiana to open his private practice and continue his military service in a reserve status obtaining the rank of LTC.
Dr. Mayer practiced dentistry for almost 50 years. He served as an associate clinical instructor at LSU School of Dentistry, was the past president of Northlake Dental Association and was a life member of the American Dental Association.
In addition to his service to the community and country, Dr. Mayer was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts serving as a Scout Master for years. Â He was also a passionate duck hunter and amateur dog trainer, earing over 500 championships with his beloved Blitz, the first UKC German Shorthair Pointer Champion.
Dr. Mayer is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mayer, two sons, Randell and Alexander, daughter, Danielle, two bonus sons, Zane and Ivan, his sister and brother in law, Dr. William and Sandra Fleenor and two brothers and sisters-in law, Dr. Russell and Ann Mayer and Dr. Andrew Mayer and Dr. Georgia McDonald, and six grandchildren. Â
Dr. Mayer was well known for his generous spirit and passion for life. He was also very proud that he and his children continued the proud Mayer family military legacy.
