Dr. Mary Anne McMurray

Dr. Mary Anne McMurray, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at the age of 83. She was born on August 1, 1941, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Bernard and Mary Saxon McMurray.

After graduating from Ponchatoula High School in 1959, Mary Anne entered the convent of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and remained with them until 1978. She obtained a Doctorate of Philosophy from University of New Orleans before relocating to Henderson, Kentucky. Mary Anne taught different science classes to students from elementary to college until her retirement from Henderson Community College.

Mary Anne lived a life of service to others. She created many works of beauty with cross-stitch. Those who knew Mary Anne will remember her for her infectious smile, her deep-rooted faith and unwavering commitment to spreading kindness and helping others. She was deeply involved with the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Henderson, Kentucky.

Those she leaves behind, who hold many cherished memories include: Siblings, Peggy McMurray, Bernard McMurray, Jr. (Sanguansak), Barbara Opdenhoff (David), Fred McMurray, Rita Kay McMurray, Marcia McMurray Selph, Patrick McMurray (Cindy), Joan McMuray Hoover (Eugene), Irene McMurray Labue and her dear friend, Loretta May Oliver.

Mary Anne is also survived by her two foster children, Tung Thanh Ly and Minh Van Tran along with a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Saxon McMurray; and her siblings, Arlene McMurray Elston, Janet McMurray Farace and William McMurray.

Family and friends will be received at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 255 North 8th Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 9:00 am until the Funeral Mass begins at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
