Dr. John Taylor Alexander, of Hammond, LA, passed away July 24, 2024. John was born on December 21, 1943, in Urbandale, IA. His parents were the late Edith Goudy Alexander and Ralph Dewitt Alexander. John was also preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas, Richard, Jim and Robert Alexander. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Hardwick Alexander, of Hammond; his daughter, Kimberly Alexander Diez (Brad), and grandsons, Dalton Diez, of Denham Springs, LA, and Chance Diez, of Austin, TX; his son, John Taylor Alexander (Stacy), grandsons, Finn and Felix Alexander, of Goldsboro, NC; and his son, Scott Alexander, of Washington D.C. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. John earned his B.S. and Master’s degrees from Mississippi State and taught there for 2 years. He then served in the Vietnam Conflict. Afterwards, he received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Missouri. He taught at UNI and SLU before working at Lockheed Martin at Michoud Facility in New Orleans, as a manufacturing engineer for 30+ years. He had been active in Boy Scout Leadership and Rotary Club. After retirement, he was active in VFW Post 3652, AmVets 68, and First Presbyterian Church of Hammond and a woodcarving group. John loved to be with family and friends. He and Judy traveled most of the United States and some overseas travel as well. He was always busy, working on projects. John was a very caring, gentle, and kind soul who loved to laugh. He will be missed. Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, 411 West Charles Street, Hammond, Monday, July 29, 2024, from 10:00 am until memorial services at 11:00 am. A private interment will follow at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Hammond or to VFW Post 3652.
