Douglas McArthur Heck, age 83, peacefully passed away on his 60th wedding anniversary at his Hammond residence surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 18, 2025. He was born on March 16, 1942, to the late Hazel and Eddie Heck in Covington, Louisiana. Doug was a proud veteran of the US Army. He was a man of many talents, including but not limited to, painting, building houses, making concrete products, cooking his famous spaghetti and meat sauce as well as his homemade biscuits. You could often find him on his lawnmower cutting his grass or working on his Honey-Do list Mrs. Emily lovingly gave him. Doug had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping anyone he could. His talents led him to Mexico and Honduras on mission trips helping build churches to further spread the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What brought Doug the most joy was his family, spoiling his grandchildren and spending time with them making memories they will cherish forever. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Emily Robertson Heck; children, Gwen Davis (Jim), and Wendell Heck (Holly); grandchildren, Aaron Davis, Haley McCann (Dillen), Jamie Eleser (Kyle), Brandon Heck (Allison), Ryan Heck (Elise), Kaleb Heck (Katie); great-grandchildren, Elliana Heck, Ezra Heck, Simeon Heck, Elliot Heck, Eden Heck and Samuel Eleser; siblings, Rev. Warren Heck, Ray Heck, Sharon Bass (Fred); as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Hazel and Eddie Heck; sister, Barbara Bernard; sisters-in-law, June Heck and Eyvonne Heck.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Bro. Wendell Heck will be officiating the funeral service with burial to follow in Lanier Cemetery in Loranger, Louisiana.
