Dorthea "Dot" Ellen Reeves Perrin, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the age of 98. She was born on September 19, 1922, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of the late James Monroe Reeves and Ellen Salome Cain Reeves. Dorthea attended Jones Consolidated School in McComb, Mississippi, Hammond High School, and graduated from Ponchatoula High School. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in McComb and First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula. Dorthea was a master seamstress as well as a teacher and interpreter for the deaf for the St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parish School Districts. She was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Alden Kindred of America, Lifetime Member of the Louisiana Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and was an active supporter for the Ponchatoula Volunteer Fire Department. Dorthea was very proud to be a published author of two books: "Will I Ever Hear the Whippoorwills?" and "Our Family Mystery: Lewy Body Dementia." Besides her talent in writing, Dorthea spent her time researching genealogy and writing poetry. Another area of her research was focused on Lewy Body Dementia, which claimed the life of her husband. She was an active member of a Lewy Body Forum throughout her caregiving years, sharing and enlightening others with the important work being done in this field. Dorthea was an incredible person, an inspiration to her family and she leaves behind countless precious memories.

Dorthea is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Perrin Wilcox (Sherman Wilcox), Paulette Perrin, and Margaret "Peggy" Perrin Sharpe (Eddie Sharpe); son, Robert E. "Bobby" Perrin, III (Sandra Duplessis Perrin); grandchildren, Kip Fletcher (Xinyang Amelia Fletcher), Ryan Hubbs, Sr. (Suzette Guerrero Hubbs), Shane Hubbs, Kyle Hubbs, Rhett Sharpe (Vanessa Howell Sharpe), Kassie Perrin Wilson (Matthew Wilson), Robert E. "Arie" Perrin, IV, and Eddie A. Sharpe, Jr. (Lora Osborne Sharpe); great-grandchildren, Lindsey Hubbs, Ryan Hubbs, Jr., Brooke Hubbs, Sloane Sharpe, Lucille Wilson, Jameson Wilson, Alex Guerrero, and Jules Guerrero; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dorthea was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert E. "Bobby" Perrin, Jr. and siblings, Violet Tackett, James Chester "J.C." Reeves, Elsie Wilson, and Evelyn Whittington.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dorthea's longtime friend and doctor, Dr. Robert Walker, and also Modern Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Ponchatoula, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue at First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

A Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula, 325 E. Pine St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Friday at 11:00 am, with Dr. David Cranford officiating.

Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
