Dorothy Crayton Milton

Dorothy Crayton Milton, age 90, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at her Hammond residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 5, 1934, in New Orleans, to the late Rufus Crayton Sr. and Lillie Everett Crayton. From a young age, Dorothy developed a love for flowers and plants. This passion blossomed into a career as a florist, where she spent over 40 years sharing her talent and artistry with the community. Dorothy owned and operated Milton’s Florist in Hammond, LA where she created beautiful arrangements for weddings, funerals, birthdays, and countless other special occasions. She was known for her creativity, attention to detail and ability to capture the essence of each event through the language of flowers.

She is survived by her children, Robert W. Milton Jr. (Charlotte) and Darien D. Milton (Diedra); grandchildren, Holly Castillo, Meredith Boudreaux (Brandon), Caleb Milton (Amanda), Cali Milton, Cody Milton (Jessica), Jacob Milton (Sarah), Jock Milton (Noel), 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorcas Perrin and Pat Soape (Burleigh); brothers, Rona Crayton and Dennis Crayton (Pat); sister-in-law, Elaine Crayton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Rufus Crayton & Lillie Everett Crayton; husband, Robert "Bob" Milton, Sr.; infant son and daughter; daughter, Terry Gail Hux; sisters, Laurie Sherman (Ronnie) and Connie Crayton; and her brothers, Rubin Crayton and Rufus Crayton Jr.(Margaret); brother-in-law, Steve Perrin; and sister-in-law, Frances Crayton.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Jimmy Wall officiating the services. A graveside service will follow in New Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Baptist.
