Donnis Augusta Fletcher

Donnis Augusta Fletcher passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at her home in Albany, Louisiana at the age of 86. She was born on Tuesday, December 21, 1937, in Holden, Louisiana to the late George D. Bennett and Augusta McCarroll. She was a resident of Albany, Louisiana.

Donnis was a loving mother, an extraordinary grandmother, and a friend to many. She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a master’s in education. Donnis taught second grade at Albany Elementary School for many years, earning her lots of love and respect from the community. She was a fun-loving, smart, caring soul with a big personality. Donnis was one of a kind and she will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. 

Donnis is survived by her daughter, Trina Michelle Lemm; daughter, Jeannie Ann Foster (Ben); grandchildren, Mindy Ames (Patrick), Frankie V. Lemm, II, Annie Gonzales (Dex), and Jesse Foster; great-grandchildren, Josie and Abigail McCarroll McAlister, Frankie V. Lemm, III., and Isla Gonzales; sisters, Jewel Delatte Smith, Gladys Hoyt Williams, and Mary Ann Stewart; brother, Prentiss Bennett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie W. Fletcher; parents George D. and Augusta Bennett; grandson, Elmore Jake McCarroll, III; great-grandchild, Alicia Lemm; brothers, Elmer "Rabbit", George "Bilbo", Bruce, and Jerry Bennett.

The family would like to thank Donnis’s caregivers; Nicole, Belinda, Connie and Tincey for their kindness, support, and care during the last two years.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, with funeral services following at 11:00 am.

 Interment will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Albany, Louisiana.
