On Wednesday, April 24, Donald Quinn died peacefully at home with his devoted daughter at his side. He celebrated 91 years of life and was proudly independent until the time of his death.

A visitation will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a service at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Roxanne Quinn, his sister Bessie Quinn Rogers Boudreaux, and many loving nieces and nephews on the Quinn and Bittola sides of his family.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Bittola Quinn, his sons Donnie and Danny, his parents Charles Ivy Quinn and Grace Case Quinn, his brothers Charles "Buddy" Quinn (Judy), and Herbert Quinn (Marlene), his brother-in-law. C.L. Boudreaux, in-law parents, Russell Bittola, Sr. and Estelle Goudeau Bittola, and dear family friend, Pat Parker.

Donald graduated from Hammond High School in the 1950s, where the extended Quinn family has had 4 generations of graduates.   He married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary, and were married for 63 years before her death in recent years.  He served in the U.S. Navy and served in Korea during the Korean War. He was employed by Himel's Auto Parts until he retired and also managed his brother Quinn's Interstate Texaco for years.  Donald was an avid do-it-yourselfer and remodeled his homes; skills learned from his dad In his youth while the two of them built the Quinn family home together in the Woodland Park area of Hammond. He loved gardening, especially flowers and yard landscaping.  His strong work ethic and inner strength were passed on to his children, as well as his belief that we should help those in need as best we can, whenever we can.   He was devoted to taking care of his wife, children, and extended family with generosity, kindness, good humor, and largesse of heart. Donald loved animals, especially cats.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter, church, or charity of choice in memory of him.
