Don Leslie Bernard

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Don Leslie Bernard, who entered Heaven’s gates on January 22, 2025, at the age of 74. Born in Independence on June 24, 1950, Don lived a life of quiet strength and steady devotion to his family and faith. He was the beloved husband of Janice Hutchinson Bernard for 51 years, and together they raised a family grounded in love and respect.

Don was a devoted father and proud grandfather, a constant presence of care and wisdom in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #458 of Independence and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. Don was always steady and dependable, and his heart was ever open to those he loved.

A man of simple pleasures, Don found joy in the outdoors, particularly in fishing and deer hunting, where he embraced the peace and solitude of nature. He will be remembered not only for his love of these activities but for the quiet comfort he found in the company of those who mattered most to him.

Don leaves behind his wife, Janice, his children, Allison Hull (Jason) and Scott Bernard (Kate) and his grandchildren, Sawyer, Sutton, and Alice, all of whom will miss him deeply. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. In his passing, we hold on to the memories of a life well-lived—a life that was a testament to love, faith, and the importance of family.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on February 1, 2025 at Harry McKneely and Son in Hammond, LA with visitation from 10:00 AM - 12:00 and funeral at noon. Honorary pall bearers are Gilbert Hutchinson, Barry Hutchinson, Seth Hutchinson, Collin Hutchinson, Arthur Bernard III, George Wayne Hutchinson, and Jason Hull.
