Dolores "Jud" Fredericks passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 92. She was born on Monday, September 11, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Jacob Reed and Mary Florane. She was a resident of Hammond, Louisiana.
Dolores is survived by her children, Peggy Fredericks, Judith Mayeaux (Phil), and Kimberly Fredericks; grandchildren, Renee Mayeaux and Brooke McAfee (Nathen); and great-grandchildren, Mateo and Colette.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Fredericks; sister, Gloria Beauvais; and former husband, Alfred Fredericks, Jr.
Dolores grew up in New Orleans and graduated from Nicholls High School class of 1951. She worked in the Orleans Parish School System as a substitute teacher for many years. She followed her passion and received her bachelor's degree from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She received subsequent Masters and advanced degrees from the University of New Orleans. She worked as a special education teacher in Orleans, Saint Bernard, and Tangipahoa parishes. She was also the principal of the Louise S. Davis Developmental Center in New Orleans East. After the loss of her son, Anthony, she became a charter member of the St. Bernard chapter of the Compassionate Friends. She was a Lector at Our Lady of Lourdes parish Church in Violet. After retirement, she spent most of her time cooking, gardening, and shopping. She will be missed and, in our hearts, forever.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, La 70401, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 10:00 am until the memorial service begins at 12:00 pm.
Interment will follow in Rose Memorial Cemetery, Hammond, La.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Humane Society of America would be greatly appreciated.
