David Arnold Kraft, known to many as “Skinny”, to some as Dave, and most proudly as Pappy, passed away leaving behind a lifetime of stories and laughter that will never quite be filled.
David is survived by his two children Phillip David (Katie) and Ciara Tucker (Ryan), three grandsons who were absolutely his world, Noah David, Ridge Chase, and River Beck, and the best baby mama/nurse/caretaker/chauffeur, Karen. He is also survived by his father, Kenneth, his two 4-legged canine companions, Grizz and Neighbor, his two brothers Kenny (Sheri) and Craig (Dinea), uncle Valley “Butch” Kraft (Andie) and aunt Evelyn Richard. He loved his nephews and nieces like his own children- Tristan, Keaton, Kaylie, Kaleb, Kolby, and Karlee.
He is proceeded in death by his mother, Lillie Mae and his brother Phillip Dirk “DD” Kraft. He is also proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents Phillip Bay Nuccio and Josephine Nuccio, paternal grandparents Valley A “Cotton” and Louanna Lanoux Kraft, and two uncles Larry and Tommy “PeeWee” Kraft.
A true Manchac legend, David was widely regarded as the best crabber around, wearing his slicker suit like a badge of honor. He felt most at home outdoors—whether hunting deer or nutria, being on the water in his boat, The Grizzly Neighbor, or simply soaking up fresh air. He was a true comeback king: quick-witted, sharp-tongued, and always ready with a remark that left people laughing, speechless, or both. He had a nickname for everyone, whether you knew it or not. When he wasn’t close to home, he was happiest traveling to the mountains or Caribbean where the drinks were strong, the shots were plentiful, and the good times were guaranteed. But no matter where he went, there was one non-negotiable: he never missed an episode of the Young and the Restless.
David lived his life his way—full, loud, outdoors, and unapologetically himself. He leaves behind a legacy of love, grit, and stories that will be told for generations. If there’s crab to be caught, coffee to be poured, or a daytime drama to watch, we’re certain Pappy is already there—Manchac Reeboks on, smiling big.
If you were lucky enough to know him, you knew his love showed up big, but his appetite was bigger. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you enjoy a steak dinner with cheesecake or coffee&beignets in his memory.
David was sure to let his family know who he wanted to carry him. His pallbearers are Chris Bourn, Kevin Beyl “Worm”, Scott Boudreaux “Mullet”, John Hoover “Hoover” Benjy Johnson, and Kolby Kraft (his 3rd child).
The family is thankful for all the wonderful medical care he received and would like to recognize Dr Chambliss Harrod, Dr Siva Yadlipati, and Dr Maurice King for all their dedication.
