Darrell Joseph Ozment Sr.

Darrell Joseph Ozment Sr., of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the age of 95. He was born on October 10, 1930, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, the son of the late Joseph Virgil and Blanche Broussard Ozment. Darrell graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in finance, laying the foundation for his 35 year career at GMAC where he retired as regional manager. His professional accomplishments were matched only by his unwavering commitment to his faith. Darrell was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula. He served as a member and president of the Oak Knoll Country Club for several years, where he enjoyed his time and made lasting friendships. Darrell also cherished his family deeply and his love for them was evident in every aspect of his life. In addition, he took great pride in his yard and garden, tending to it brought him joy but also beautified his community.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 64 years, Merle "Pud" Galatas Ozment; children, Darrell Ozment Jr. (Denise) of Nashville, TN, Wendy Ozment of Hammond, LA, and Valarie Patterson of Folsom, LA; as well as numerous grandchildren great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his son, George Patterson; brother, Kenneth Ozment; and sisters, Myrtle Ozment, Pearl Ozment Sharp, Ruby Ozment Chistman, Annette Ozment Drake Hagg, Mattie Ozment Gillspie, Virgil Ozment McWilliams Krafft.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 8:30 am until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 am, with Deacon Larry Melancon officiating.

Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula.
