Cynthia Kraft Newton

Cynthia Kraft Newton passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana, at the age of 70. She was born on Tuesday, March 30, 1954 in Covington, Louisiana to the late Gertrude Chastant Kraft and the late Leonard Kraft. She was a resident of Hammond, Louisiana.

Cindy joined the US Navy in 1973 till 1976. That is where she meet her husband, Bryon. She joined the American Legion Auxiliary in 1976 and the American Legion in 1979. She was members of Post and Unit 47 in Ponchatoula and :Post and Unit 05 in Hammond. She has held many offices within the Auxiliary Unit, District and States Levels. She held offices within the Legion Post. She also won the Blue Cap Award in 2023 for the Post. She was the American Legion Auxiliary Department President in 1993-1994, serving along side her daughter, Katherine as Honorary Jr. Department President. Her life mission was helping Veterans' and their families in any way that she can. She would find a way to help someone even if she didn't have the means too. She always found a way. 

Cynthia is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bryon Newton; children, Katherine Mott(Gerald) and William Newton; grandchildren, Shelbilyn LeBlanc(Nicholas), Dylan Mott(Samantha), and Elizabeth Newton; great-grandchildren, Austin LeBlanc and Corbin LeBlanc; soon-to-be great-grandson, Arthur Mott; sisters, Trudy, Patricia, Linda, and Lynne; aunt, Barbara Vinet; cousins, Michelle Fontenot, and Carol Lanier; as well as numerous other cousins and family members.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Kraft; mother, Gertrude Chastant Kraft; grandparents, Peter and Elizabeth Kraft; uncle, Tommy; and numerous other family members.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the American Legion Auxiliary Programs in Louisiana. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, 100 W. Magnolia Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The visitation will continue at the funeral home the following day, Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 8:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow in Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
