Colleen Burt

Dorothy "Colleen" Burt, age 79, peacefully drifted over the clouds to her castle in heaven on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, while surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Colleen was born on January 10, 1947, in Hammond, Louisiana, to the late Thomas and Audrey Burt. She was a retired primary school teacher with the Tangipahoa Parish School System, where she dedicated many years to shaping the minds of future generations. Strong in her Catholic faith, Colleen was also proud of her Irish heritage and could spot a four-leaf clover faster than anyone.

If you knew Colleen, you could not help but fall in love with her outlook on life. She was always up for a good time or a new adventure, whether in her own backyard or traveling the world with friends and family. Colleen believed in the magic around her and enjoyed collecting anything featuring Peter Pan, whimsical fairies, or beautiful horses. She dreamed of being a pirate and even lived on a sailboat for a time in her younger years, fulfilling that dream.

In her spare time, you could often find her working on arts and crafts or painting little knickknacks with her precious grandchildren, instilling a sense of wonder and magic in their lives. She had a remarkable green thumb and could seemingly bring any plant back to life. Dancing and Elvis went hand in hand with Colleen. She loved to attend Elvis tribute shows with her daughter Britton so she could swoon over the King-with a Captain and Coke in hand, no doubt.

Above all else, Colleen loved her family more than anything. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her world complete. Being called "Mom" and "Nan" were her greatest accomplishments and proudest titles. Though she is gone, her legacy of magic, love, and adventure will live on through the memories her family will cherish forever.

Colleen is survived by her adoring children, Genie Tisdale, Craig Davidge, Regan Mizell, and Britton Vallee (Jeffery); her precious grandchildren, Dr. Heather Penton (Josh), Michelle Tisdale, Nicole Morel (Drake), Aaron Davidge, Dr. Trent Davidge (Caroline), Bralyn Graham, Saige Vallee, Tyler Vallee, and Reese Vallee; her beautiful great-grandchildren, Silhou Tisdale and Acie Penton; her loving sister, Karen Burt-Crocker; her wonderful sister-in-law, Marlyn Burt; as well as her beloved fur babies, Finn and Clover.

Colleen was preceded in death by Stanley Mizell; her brother, Wayne Burt; and her parents, Thomas and Audrey Burt.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 409 W. Dakota Street, Hammond, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the Memorial Mass at 12:00 p.m.

Mrs. Colleen's favorite color was any shade of green, guests are encouraged to wear green in her memory.
