Christine "Chris" Culberson Ashcraft

Christine “Chris” Culberson Ashcraft was called home January 29,2025 at the age of 87. A Hammond native, she became a part of the Monroe community almost 20 years ago to be near family. 

Chris was the tenth of twelve children born to Porter and Ola Culberson of Philadelphia Mississippi on July 10th, 1937. Her lifelong love of sports began with playing half-court basketball at Philadelphia High School. She would later meet the love of her life, Jerry Ashcraft while playing basketball in college. They were married for almost 34 years before his death in 1992. Their hearts and home expanded when their three children, Tammy, Lance, and Brien came along. She created a warm and inviting home in Hammond and then Monroe for family, friends, and strangers. One of her biggest gifts was her ability to instantly bond with others bringing joy and making lifelong connections. Her relationship and faith in her Saviour Jesus Christ gave her strength through difficult times and was her guiding light. She always managed to see the best in people and find beauty in the world around her. This made her a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Jerry Ashcraft, and son Brien Ashcraft. 

She is survived by her children, Tammy Anthon (Robert) and Lance Ashcraft (Wendye); grandchildren Ryan Anthon, Kristy Hall (Nathan), Aaron Anthon, Lauren Pither (Jeremy), Jordan Hu (Vince), Taylor Heller (Cory), and Allie Ashcraft; great-grandchildren Riley Hall, Elle Hall, Josie Hall, Olive Hall, Ruthie Jane Hall, Maddox Pither, MaKynlee Pither, Rainer Anthon, and Olivia Heller; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A service of remembrance will be held at First Christian Church, 305 E. Charles St., Hammond La. 70401, at 1pm on Tuesday February 4th. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm, followed by a celebration of her life in the fellowship hall with family and friends.
