Charlie Edward Bennett Sr.

Charlie Edward Bennett Sr. passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 90. He was born on Saturday, May 26, 1928 in Independence, Louisiana. Charlie was a resident of Independence, Louisiana and proudly served in the United States Army. He had a love for horses and his farm, and was also employed with the Tangipahoa Parish Council for many years as a road grader operator. Charlie was also a gospel singer in the Bennett Family Band that served all the nursing homes in Tangipahoa Parish.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Jennie Bennett; children, Charlene Gail Bevere (Larry), Reggie Lynn Bennett (Rose), Mary Alice Bennett, Dennis Leon Bennett (Dottie), Timothy Bennett (Kay) and Charlie Edward Bennett Jr. (Julie); grandchildren, Dr. Melanie S. Bevere (Gunner), Dustin Ryan Chavers (Ashley) and Josh Bennett; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Ann Chavers and Heath Ryan Chavers; and sister Joan Bennett Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ella Bennett; and son, Scotty Lee Bennett .

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. with the Memorial Service beginning at 6:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
