âCharles A. DeGruy, Sr , 83 years old of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016. He was born December 2, 1932, in New Orleans.
He served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He coached little league baseball for a few seasons in Ponchatoula, he enjoyed bowling on several different teams after he had retired and loved spending the majority of his spare time at his camp on the Tangipahoa River.
He is survived by six children, Charles A. DeGruy Jr. of Springfield; Susan Ebere, Tammi Davis, Michael DeGruy and Robert DeGruy all of Ponchatoula; and Robin DeGruy of Mechanicsville, Maryland; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his dogs, Noel and Pooky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Heinrich DeGruy; parents, Harvey H. DeGruy and Edna Cecile Geoffrey DeGruy; 3 brothers, Harvey DeGruy, Horace DeGruy, Melvin DeGruy and sister, Cecil Guichet; grandson, Gary Wayne Vampran and granddaughter, Alisa Shelby DeGruy.
Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 10:00 am until services begin at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel.
