Cecilia Marie Sampere, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed from this life on Friday, April 28, 2023, in her home at the age of 82. Cecilia, lovingly known as “Cyd,” is survived by her daughters and their husbands; Helen (Keith) Carona, Wendy (Bill) Nielsen, Mary (Andy) Loving, Christen (Charles) Anzalone, Catherine (Todd) Inzinna, Anna (David) St. Marie, Angela (Cliff) Gomez, her grandchildren; Michael (Lauren) Carona, Mallory C. (Rodric) Dykes, Sarah Nielsen, Sadie N. (Aaron) Beckner, Christian Loving, Benjamin Anzalone, Ashley Inzinna, Bradley Anzalone, Blake Inzinna, Gabrielle Sampere, Amelia St. Marie, Ralin Gomez, Emerson St. Marie and Brodie Gomez and her great-grandchildren; Harper and Benson Carona, Theodore Dykes, and William Beckner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Alfred Buis and Helen Bernstine Buis; husband, Anthony “Skeet” Sampere, Sr., son, Anthony Joseph Sampere, Jr., infant sons, Joseph and John Perello, and brother, Otto J. Buis.

Cyd was born on Friday, August 2, 1940, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School which sparked her deep-rooted love of Catholicism and education.
From there, she attended Lake Charles High School and continued her education at McNeese University, where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. Her first endeavor as an educator was as a second-grade teacher at Independence Elementary School and then at Independence Middle School. Later in life, her maternal instincts led her to open a daycare to educate migrant children whose parents came to farm the land of Independence.

As a devout Catholic, Cyd attended Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church where she shared with her family the importance of the sequential priorities of life: faith, family, and work.

She shared many cherished memories with her late husband, Skeet Sampere, children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren.  As a retired teacher of twenty-five years and insurance agent, she spent her days antique shopping, going to the movies, remodeling, and decorating her rental homes, gardening, and simply enjoying life from her front porch.  As the matriarch, she ensured her large family was always well-fed and familiarized with her favorite Italian recipes.

She will forever be remembered for her compassion for others, undeniable faith, and genuine love for her family.
