Catherine "Joyce" Chambers

Catherine "Joyce" Chambers, age 99, of Loranger, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021, at home with her family by her side. She was born on Saturday, November 5, 1921, in Amite, Louisiana, to Thomas Warren Cooper and Annie Elizabeth Glascock Cooper. Joyce lived and loved her beloved Loranger Wolves. She was a teacher, mentor, guidance counselor and coach for many years at Loranger High School and started the first Beta Club there for all academic students. Joyce was very active and volunteered for many years at North Oaks Medical Center. She enjoyed life and loved golfing, tennis, bowling, the Loranger Wolves, girls’ basketball, crossword puzzles, or any word puzzles, but she especially loved spending time with her family.

Joyce is survived by her son, Ronald Glynn Chambers and his wife Rita Carlton Chambers, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Warren Cooper and Annie Elizabeth Glascock Cooper, her husband, Leslie Thomas Chambers, her children, Barbara Chambers Clouate, Linda Chambers Wyckoff and Russell "Rusty" Chambers.

A Visitation for Joyce will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 8:30 am until 10:30 am at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. A Funeral Mass Celebrating Joyce's Life will follow visitation at 11:00 am at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Independence. Interment will follow at Cooper Cemetery of the Sacred Heart in Loranger.

Face masks are mandatory to attend any visitation or service at the funeral home and at the church we ask that you maintain a respectful distance with the family. Thank you for your cooperation.
