Catherine "Cat" Bryant Murphy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 85. She was born on Saturday, October 12, 1940, in Independence, Louisiana, to the late Effie and Johnny Bryant, Sr.
Known affectionately as "Cat," Catherine was known for her sassiness, strong spirit, and loving heart. She never hesitated to speak her mind and always left a lasting impression on those around her. Catherine was a woman of strong faith who loved and faithfully followed Jesus throughout her life. Her faith guided her through life's joys and challenges and was a source of strength, comfort, and hope. She was a dedicated caregiver for many years, finding purpose in caring for others. She loved spending time with her family, especially gathering around the card table for games of Gin Rummy. Catherine enjoyed working crossword puzzles, listening to Elvis Presley, and "running the roads" with her beloved twin sister, Josephine, making memories and sharing countless adventures together. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her unwavering faith, and the love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Sheila Kulick and her partner, Yvonne; grandson, Ryan Murphy and his fiancée, Candice, and their daughter, Maddison Katherine Murphy; grandson, Richard Murphy and his wife, Jessica, and their children, Shelby Morgan, Gabriel Murphy, Barrett Murphy, Keegan Cizmich, and Tucker Cizmich; great-grandsons, Braden Ogima and Sean Ogima; twin sister, Josephine Bryant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Larry Murphy; daughter, Barbara Jean Murphy; granddaughter, Danielle Kulick; grandson, Jason Kulick; sister, Louise Bryant; and brothers, Johnny "Junior," Walter, Noah, and Olen Bryant.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, Louisiana, from 11:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service begins at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.
