Carolyn White Ibert, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away at her home on Friday, August 7, 2020, at the age of 96. She was born on October 7, 1923, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Samuel A. White Sr. and Carolyn "Carrie" Pregeant White. After moving with her family at the age of 2, Carolyn has been a lifelong resident of Hammond. She has been a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Hammond since 1938, as well as a member of the Presbyterian Woman and Round Table. Carolyn earned a Master's Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in Education & Guidance and was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma. From her years of teaching, she touched the lives of countless students. She taught Biology and Home Economics at Hammond High School and also taught at Southwood Academy. Carolyn was an avid and talented knitter and quilter from a young age. She knitted helmet liners for soldiers in WWII and the War in Afghanistan, and belonged to the Prayer Shawl Ministry at First Presbyterian Church. In 1976, Carolyn and her husband started traveling with the Wally Byam Airstream Club and Carolyn served as President of the Louisiana Division. In the years following Charles' death in 1990, Carolyn continued to travel with the Airstream Club up until just a few years ago. During this time she drove over 100,000 miles in an Airstream B-van, going as far as Nova Scotia. Throughout her life, Carolyn was a dynamic woman with boundless interests and abilities. She was truly something special and her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Carolyn is survived by her three sons and their wives, Glynn Charles Ibert (Bobbette), George P. Ibert (Yvonne), and Michael D. Ibert (Cindy); grandchildren, Jennifer McKernan (John), Bret Ibert (Tabitha), Amy Ibert Binck (Brian), Brandi Davis (Will), and Cliffe Cantu (Kristi); 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sister, Ellen White Harrell; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Ibert, Jr.; 1 great grandson; brother, Samuel A. White, Jr. and his wife Carol Hyde White; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Earl Harrell.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the caring attention of Carolyn's caregivers, Ella Milton and Ellis Neal, as well as Modern Home Health and Hospice.
Services were held privately. Family and friends are encouraged to send condolences and share memories online.
Carolyn's final resting place is at Holly Gardens Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana next to her husband.
