Carolyn June Slaughter Fontenot, of Springfield, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on July 3, 1943, in Sacramento, California, the daughter of the late Clifford Ernest Slaughter, Sr. and Lilly Mae Buhler Slaughter. She was a devoted member and office holder of both the Springfield American Legion Lady's Auxiliary and the AmVets Lady's Auxiliary. Carolyn was well known as a beloved cafeteria worker at Springfield Elementary and Middle Schools. A true outdoors woman at heart, Carolyn found joy in the simple pleasures of nature. She loved hunting, tending to her garden, and she was always ready to go sacalait fishing. Carolyn had a special affection for Elvis Presley and always kept a photo of him close. Above all, Carolyn’s greatest love was her family. Her devotion and care for her loved ones were the foundation of her life, and her memory will forever live on in their hearts. Carolyn treasured every moment she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether she was sharing stories, taking them for rides on the golf cart, offering words of wisdom and encouragement, or simply spending time together, Carolyn had a special way of making each of them feel loved, valued, and important. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her family, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness that will be treasured for generations to come.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Doug Fontenot (Vicki) and Michael Fontenot (Crystal); grandchildren, Tyler Fontenot, Adrianna Lott, Jaclyn Lott, Kristie Aime (Jonathan), Danielle Braddy (Todd), Michael Kane Fontenot II, and Dylan Fontenot (Sydney); great grandchildren, Olivia, Cayson, Myles, Andrew, Ania, Boston, Dixie and Audrina; siblings, Larry Hoyt (Tammie), Gary Slaughter, and Marlene Thompson (Charles); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Fontenot, Sr.; daughter, Deanna "Sissy" Fontenot Hoyt; son, James L. "BooBoo" Fontenot, Jr.; and siblings, Clifford "Tippy" Slaughter, Jr. and Marilyn Fayard.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 9:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 am, with Jeremy Glasscock officiating.
