Camilla Sigrid Swenson Harris

Camilla Sigrid Swenson Harris passed away peacefully at home with her family on Friday, February 9, 2024, in Covington, Louisiana, at the age of 93.  She was born on Thursday, June 26, 1930 in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late Paul Marshall Swenson and the late Joyce Harper Swenson.  She was a resident of Covington, Louisiana, but lived in New Orleans for many years.  Camilla earned her Bachelors degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in Music and Fine Arts, before earning her Master's in Special Education from the University of New Orleans.  She met her husband, Dr. George Harris, on the steps of the Pottle Music Building at Southeastern Louisiana University.  Camilla taught high school Art and English classes for many years, and retired to raise her three children. She loved genealogy and decorating the house with fresh flowers from her own garden.  Camilla was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for several decades.

Camilla is survived by her children, Michelle Mary Harris, Alan Jerome Harris and his wife, Norma Figuero Harris, and Alicia Louisie Harris; grandchildren, Vanessa Alexandra Thibodeaux and her husband, Stephen Thibodeaux, Giselle Rosemary Cloutier, Cary Michael Harris and his wife, Regie Harris, Naomi Marie Harris, and Rebekah Jean Dragg and her husband, Rodney Dragg; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel Paul Dragg, Alan Dragg, Nathaniel Harris, Natalie Harris, and Bailey Rose Thibodeaux.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Dr. George Alexander Harris; her parents, Paul Marshall Swenson and Joyce Harper Swenson; and her brother, Jerry Swenson.

Services for Camilla are private, but friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service for Camilla at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1005 Western Avenue, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 2:30 PM.
